Jim Mitchell, President and CEO

Jim Mitchell Jim has served the banking industry for more than 31 years, with nearly 20 of those years in the Greater Seattle area. A native of Poulsbo, Washington, he received his BA from Seattle University and his MBA from the University of Washington, then went on to earn a JD from Southwestern University School of Law in LA. Jim left Sterling Savings Bank as SVP & Manager of the Seattle Corporate Banking office to establish Puget Sound Bank. His prior experience included serving as SVP at US Bank in Seattle for 12 years and managing corporate banking and commercial banking teams with Security Pacific Bank over a 13-year period. Jim has served on boards for various local organizations involved in healthcare, the arts and education. He currently serves on the boards of the Albers School of Business at Seattle University and the Washington Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Sean Brennan, EVP, Chief Lending Officer

Sean Brennan Sean brings 18 years of commercial banking experience to Puget Sound Bank, most recently as Vice President of Commercial Banking for Washington Trust Bank. Previously, he served 14 years as a VP for US Banks commercial banking group. He began his career at Arthur Andersen & Co. after attending the University of Washington and graduating from Loyola Marymount University. Born and raised in the Northwest, Sean is married and has twin boys.

Tony Chalfant, EVP, Chief Credit Officer

Tony Chalfant Tony began his career as a National Bank Examiner with the US Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), followed by 21 years in commercial banking, most recently as SVP with US Bank. Tony graduated from Washington State University in Finance/Economics and from the Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington. He is a board member of the Bellevue Boys and Girls Club, a member of the Eastside Business Roundtable and former member of the Bellevue Art Museum Board of Trustees. Tony is married and has two daughters.

Phil Mitterling, EVP, Chief Financial Officer

Phil Mitterling Phil has over twenty years of banking experience in finance, treasury, and operational functions. Most recently, Phil was First Vice President and Operational Risk Manager at Washington Mutual Bank. Phil began his career with Seafirst Bank and Bank of America, working there for sixteen years in various accounting, finance, and treasury functions. He left Bank of America as the Vice President and Senior Manager of the Seattle Office of Corporate Treasury. After Bank of America, Phil spent five years as Treasurer of EverTrust Financial Group. Phil has an MBA from the University of Washington.

Judy Havens, SVP, Operations Manager

Judy Havens Judy has more than 36 years of banking operations experience, having served 24 years at Rainier/Security Pacific Bank. Judy was at Key Bank for seven years as a Branch Manager and Audit & Funding Manager. Prior to joining Puget Sound Bank, she was with Pacific Northwest Bank as a VP & Manager of Customer Service and Mail Distribution. Judy attended Walla Walla College, is married, and has two children.

Katherine Thompson, SVP, Relationship Manager

Katherine Thompson Katherine comes to Puget Sound Bank via Washington Trust Bank and Sterling Savings Bank, where she has worked closely with business owners for 20 years. She holds an MBA from Seattle University, a B.S. from the University of Montana and is also a graduate of Pacific Coast Banking School. A community leader, Katherine has served on numerous non-profit boards, is the immediate past president of the Bellevue Rotary Club, a former member of the Newcastle Planning Commission and served as LeaderSim faculty for Pacific Coast Banking School.

Steve Vincent, SVP, Relationship Manager

Steve Vincent Steve brings more than 16 years of experience serving middle market companies in the Puget Sound region. He understands what businesses need to grow, having developed an expertise in all areas of business and commercial real estate financing. An honor roll graduate of the Pacific Coast Banking School, he earned his MBA at Seattle University and an undergraduate degree in Business at Western Washington University. Steve is a Northwest native, growing up on Orcas Island, and is active in the community, serving on the Board of Youth Eastside Services (2002-2005). He is married with two children.

Lisa Brunton, VP, Relationship Manager, Private Banking

Lisa Brunton Lisa brings twenty-six years of private banking, corporate banking, and real estate lending to Puget Sound Bank. Most recently, she was the Vice President and Relationship Manager within the Private Banking Group of one the largest banks in the region. Lisa is a strong community leader, currently serving on the board of directors for the Kirkland Arts Center (Past Vice President) and the Kirkland Downtown Association; she is a former board member of the Employee Development Network Association and past chairperson of the United Way Foundation. Lisa has lived in the Puget Sound area for 20 years and raised her two daughters in the Pacific Northwest.

Mary Francis, VP, Cash Management Manager

Mary Francis Mary brings more than 16 years of experience in cash management sales and customer service to Puget Sound Bank. With Bank of America/Seafirst Bank for nine years, she served as a Cash Management Sales Officer, and was subsequently in cash management sales for Washington Mutual and Key Bank for a combined total of 8 years. She received her CCM/CTP certification in 1997. A graduate of the University of New Mexico, Mary and her husband make Puget Sound their home.

Mary Klubben, VP, Portfolio Manager

Mary Klubben Mary began her financial services career as a Pension Administrator, followed by 11 years in commercial and business banking with US Bank and Washington Mutual. Her tenure included positions as a Relationship Manager, Regional Business Banker, and most recently Credit Risk Officer and Policy Manager. She is a Washington CASH trainer/mentor as well as an active community volunteer. Mary has a BBA in Accounting and an MBA from Gonzaga University, and resides in Seattle.

Yulia Slobodina, VP, Controller

Yulia Slobodina Yulia has more than 12 years experience in accounting and banking and has served the banking community in Russia and the US. Prior to joining Puget Sound Bank, she held the position of Controller at Asia Europe Americas Bank. She is a graduate of Far-Eastern School of Management, Vladivostok Russia, and has a Masters Degree in Accounting from Central Washington University in Ellensburg, WA. Yulia is a native of St. Petersburg, Russia. In 1995, she made Seattle her home.

David Stegmeier, VP, Relationship Manager

David Stegmeier David joined Puget Sound Bank at its inception in 2005. He has over 10 years of commercial banking and finance experience and brings a strong background in credit analysis, operations and IT proficiency. David graduated from Utah Valley State College and also attended the University of Utah before relocating to Seattle in 2000. He currently lives in the rapidly evolving South Lake Union neighborhood of Seattle.

Robert Steinburg, VP, Relationship Manager

Robert Steinburg Bob has more than 34 years of commercial banking experience, having worked for Security Pacific National Banking in Los Angles, Seattle First National Bank/Bank of America for 13+ years, and most recently US Bank for 20 years in the Bellevue market.  Bob graduated from Washington State University in Business Administration and from the Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington. He is aboard member of Healing the Children, a non-profit organization that provides medical assistance to Children worldwide. Bob is married and has three grown children.

Jana Westphal, VP, Assistant Operations Manager

Jana Westphal Jana has been a member of the Puget Sound Bank team since its 2005 inception. She has more than 23 years of banking experience in a variety of managerial positions in operations with banks including Wells Fargo, Pacific Northwest Bank and Key Bank. Jana graduated from the University of Washington. She currently resides in Kent.
